Adaklu: A total of 678 candidates will be taking this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Adaklu district of the Volta region. The number is made up of 322 males and 356 females.
According to Ghana News Agency, Ms Judith Makafui Kuagbonu, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Adaklu District Directorate of Education, disclosed this information during an interview at Adaklu Waya. She stated that the candidates were from 34 schools, consisting of 32 public schools and two private schools.
Ms Kuagbonu further explained that 658 candidates, including 312 males and 346 females, hail from public schools, whereas 20 candidates-10 males and 10 females-are from the two private schools. She mentioned that the district hosts two examination centers: Gbekor Senior High School at Adaklu Abuadi and Adaklu Senior High School at Adaklu Waya.
The PRO highlighted that 356 candidates, comprising 184 males and 172 females, will take their examination at the Gbekor Senior High School center, while 322 candidates, including 138 males and 184 females, will be at the Adaklu Senior High School center. Notably, there are no visually or hearing-impaired candidates among them.
A significant challenge faced by the district is accommodating the candidates, as their schools are distant from the examination centers. Ms Kuagbonu advised candidates against bringing unauthorized materials into the examination rooms, warning, "If you are caught, the full weight of the law will be applied."
She urged teachers to allow candidates to work independently to maximize their potential, stating, "Give your students room to work independently to bring out what you taught them."
Ms Kuagbonu announced that the examination would commence on Wednesday, 11th June, with Social Studies and Computing, and conclude on Tuesday, 17th June, with French and Creative Arts papers. However, candidates writing the Arabic paper will finish on Wednesday, 18th June.
