Over 120,000 Students to Participate in 2025 BECE in Ashanti Region

Kumasi: Over 120,000 students are expected to sit for this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ashanti Region. Dr. William Kwame Amankra Appiah, the Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), announced that a total of 120,285 candidates, comprising 60,286 females and 59,999 males, will be participating across 432 centers.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Appiah shared these details during a school selection process workshop organized in Kumasi. The workshop, facilitated by the GES in collaboration with the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service, was aimed at informing directors, public relations officers, examination officers, and counseling coordinators about the updated senior high school selection process.

Participants of the workshop were briefed on the revised selection process, which now allows candidates to choose from seven schools instead of the previous eleven. The workshop's goal was to ensure that these officials are well-equipped to guide and educate parents and students in making informed decisions regarding senior high school selections.

Dr. Appiah highlighted a significant increase in the number of candidates for the 2025 BECE, with an increment of 9,543 candidates, marking an 8.6 percent rise. He noted that 4,009 invigilators would be appointed to supervise the examination, maintaining a ratio of one invigilator for every 30 candidates.

He also cautioned students against engaging in any examination malpractice, emphasizing the importance of integrity and urging them to focus on their studies to secure admission into their preferred senior high schools. The 2025 BECE is scheduled to take place from June 11 to June 16, 2025.
