Boys Urged to Support Menstruating Girls During School Awareness Session

Accra: The Star Old Students Association (SOSA) conducted a menstrual hygiene awareness session for students, urging boys to avoid stigmatizing menstruating girls. Madam Agnes Agbeve, a teacher at Star Basic School, led the session, enlightening male students about the experiences of their female peers during menstruation. She encouraged boys to support their peers and sisters, helping them achieve their academic goals without fear of stigma.

According to Ghana News Agency, the session, themed 'Period-Friendly World', aimed to empower students with knowledge, promote a supportive environment, and create a stigma-free atmosphere. Madam Benedicta Adotsi, a pharmacy technician, highlighted the importance of proper hygiene, the use of sustainable menstrual products, and addressing period-related challenges. She advised students to maintain personal hygiene, dispose of used pads properly, and stay hydrated during menstruation.

During the event, sanitary pads and books were distributed to students. The books provided information on misconceptions and stigma surrounding menstruation, serving as an educational tool for boys. Miss Bless Iris Amasa, a JHS form three student, was recognized as Miss Hygiene and awarded for her neatness and courtesy.
