Tema: The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has convened a town hall meeting to update residents on the progress of development projects over the past year and to outline key plans for the upcoming year. Mr. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), addressed the gathering, focusing on significant achievements in infrastructure, sanitation, education, and security within the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Totimeh highlighted the strides made by the TWMA in improving road networks, expanding classroom facilities, and enhancing environmental health services. He also cautioned residents against erecting structures on waterways without the necessary approvals, emphasizing the threat such actions pose to public safety. Mr. Totimeh warned that the assembly would not hesitate to demolish illegal structures to safeguard lives and property.
He urged residents to support the assembly's vision of transforming Tema West into a model municipality by adhering to regulations and fulfilling their financial obligations, such as paying property rates and levies. Mr. Totimeh stressed that development requires resources, which can be achieved through the effective payment of rates and levies by the residents.
Mr. Yaw Kpabil, the Tema West Municipal Budget Analyst, stressed the importance of improved rate payments. He noted that while the assembly receives support from the central government and development partners, these funds are not sufficient to meet the growing needs of the community. Mr. Kpabil underscored that internally generated funds, particularly from rates and fees, are crucial to bridging the development gap.
The forum provided residents with an opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions, with many expressing satisfaction over the assembly's efforts and calling for increased community engagement and transparency. This town hall meeting is part of the government's broader decentralization policy aimed at promoting accountability and participatory governance.
