Sekondi-Takoradi: The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has announced that the makeshift market established beneath the pylons around the Paa Grant roundabout is safe and suitable for traders. The market was created to relocate traders from the deteriorated Jubilee Park and those around the Central Business District. The location, directly under a high-tension ECG cable, initially raised concerns among traders and consumers regarding potential radiation and safety issues.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Michael Dzisi, the Acting Coordinator of the STMA, stated that both pre and post assessments conducted by the ECG and the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission confirmed the area as safe. He assured that data supporting these findings is available for independent audits by any interested parties. Mr. Dzisi emphasized the Assembly's commitment to the safety of its citizens, stating that even in the unlikely event of a cable malfunction, there would be no harm, as the cables would fall without power.
The Assembly has begun relocating traders to this newly paved market as part of its decongestion initiative. Mr. Ernest Kochie Awuah, the Chief Metro Guard, highlighted the ongoing efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow and urged traders and drivers to cooperate with the STMA to maintain a cleaner and more organized city.
