Abuja: The Imo Government has announced a partnership with ANOH Gas Processing Company Limited (AGPC) to enhance gas production within the state. Governor Hope Uzodimma revealed this development following a meeting with Effiong Okon, the Managing Director of ANOH Gas Processing Company, and his team in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the ANOH Gas plant in Imo in 2024, marking a significant milestone in the state's gas production capabilities. Governor Uzodimma expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the gas plant, emphasizing its potential to contribute to the state's economic growth. He highlighted that the project would not only boost the local economy but also create job opportunities and position Imo as a notable player in the global gas production arena.
Governor Uzodimma further stated, "We have discussed and I've pledged to cooperate with them to give them all the necessary support and also requested that they should also cooperate with us in our developmental strides in Imo." He encouraged ANOH Gas to establish a functional office in the state to ensure the supply of clean energy, noting that such collaboration could result in a mutually beneficial outcome.
Effiong Okon, the Managing Director of ANOH Gas Processing Company Limited, elaborated on the company's structure as a 50/50 equity Incorporated Joint Venture between NNPCL and Seplat Energy. He explained that Imo was chosen for the plant due to its abundant gas reserves, discovered as early as the 1960s. Okon outlined the plant's capabilities, noting it contains approximately 40 cubic feet of gas and around 200 million barrels of condensates.
Okon further shared that since the plant's inauguration in May 2024, efforts have been underway to commence production. "We came to inform the governor of our readiness to start commissioning the plant with gas and also to start gas production sometime in July," he said. He added that from July, Imo would become one of the major states for gas production in Nigeria, with the plant designed to process 300 million standard cubic feet of gas for the energy market and LPG for the domestic market in Imo.
