Abuja: Nigeria Women's Cricket team on Thursday defeated their Tanzanian counterparts by two wickets to record their first win at the ongoing Kwibuka Women's tournament in Rwanda. The match marked a significant achievement for the Female Yellow Greens, who had previously faced defeats against Zimbabwe and Brazil in their first two matches of the tournament.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the game took place at the Gahanga Cricket Oval, where Tanzania won the toss and chose to bat first. The Nigerian team showcased their bowling strength by limiting Tanzania to a total of 82 runs for nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
In response, the Nigerian side pursued the target with determination, scoring 83 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs, thereby securing victory by two wickets. This win boosts Nigeria's position in the nine-national tournament.
Looking ahead, Nigeria is set to face hosts Rwanda on Friday. The annual Kwibuka Women's tournament is held in remembrance of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, serving as a platform for fostering peace and unity through sports.
