Eagerly awaited against Quatre Bornes Volley-ball Club for a revenge following the defeat conceded in the first match of pool B, Anse Royale (Arsu) did not find the fault to beat this team from the city of flowers which won for the fourth time in a row the women’s title of the Indian Ocean Champions Cup (CCCOI) of the CAVB zone 7.

Third in the local championship, Arsu wanted to repeat the feat of 2016 ? the year of his last coronation ? to beat Quatre Bornes Volley-ball Club in front of his home crowd. But the record holder for the number of victories in the competition lost the final played on Saturday afternoon at the Pandit Sahadeo gymnasium, leaving her opponent the chance to celebrate the victory for the first time at home after the fateful set (tie- break, 3-2).

Quatre Bornes Volleyball Club now has four titles won in four consecutive editions – 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023 – after the competition was suspended for two years.

While Arsu’s team missed first place on the podium to win the silver medal, three of their players have won individual titles and they are all from one family. They are the indestructible Jerina Bonne (the 48-year-old mother, best central blocker) and her daughters Marielle Bonne (31 years old, best outside hitter) and Marie-Hélène Rose (26 years old, best waitress ).

After losing the first set 18-25, Arsu brought out the heavy artillery in the second and third sets to win them 25-17 and 25-19, and lead 2 sets to 1. It was believed victory would come. smile to the players of coach Olivier Saurer, but the Mauritians sounded the revolt to win the fourth set 25-16 and equalize at 2-2.

The victory was decided by tie-break and the two teams were back to back ? 6-6, 8-8, 9-9, and 10-10 before Quatre BornesVolley-ball Club took the advantage 12- 10 and 14-11. The Seychellois of Arsu had no juice to reply and still tried everything to come back to score until 13-14. But it was ultimately the Mauritians who won the set 15-13 and the match (3-2).

The women’s classification match was won by St-Denis Olympique (Réunion) who beat Gendarmerie Nationale (Madagascar) 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-12).

In the men’s draw, Tampon Gecko VBS from Reunion Island retained their title thanks to their victory in the final against Olympique Montagne Goyaves from Rodrigues with the score 3 sets to 1 (25-18, 25-22, 25 -27, 25-15).

This is the fourth title won by Tampon Gecko VBS from Reunion Island Tampon Gecko VBS from Reunion Island. The first was already in Mauritius, in 2010. Then there was Madagascar twice, in 2012 and 2020.

Faucon Flacq Camp-Ithier VBC, defending champions of Mauritius, finished fourth after losing the classification match by the score of 0-3 (19-25, 22-25, 17-25) against St Denis Olympique (Réunion ).

As for the other Seychellois teams, they could not win a medal.

Against St Denis Olympique Volleyball de La Réunion in Ebène, City Ladies Volleyball Club lost 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 18-25) in their quarter-final match.

On the men’s side, the two Seychellois teams lost their quarter-final matches. Neo Boys, who was participating for the first time, lost 1-3 (18-25, 19-25, 25-23 and 15-25) to St Denis Olympique Volleyball de la Réunion, while Beau Vallon succumbed to Faucon Flacq Camp-Ithier VBC of the host country with a score of 1-3 (18-25, 25-23, 26-28, and 21-25).

As for Cascade, twice champion, in 1999 (in the Seychelles) and in 2001 (in Mauritius), she finished third and last in group D behind St-Denis Olympique (Réunion) and Gendarmerie Nationale (Madagascar).
