United Seychelles’ message on the occasion of Teachers’ Day

“Today, October 5, the United Seychelles Party joins the rest of the world to pay tribute to all the teachers around the globe and to our own devoted teachers for their hard work in shaping the next generation of children.

“This year, Seychelles marks the 32nd anniversary of Teachers’ Day under the theme ‘Teachers are the heart of Education recovery’. Inspiring children is an integral part in ensuring success and encouraging children to fulfil their potential. A teacher’s inspiration is one of the most important gifts bestowed to a child, an influence that goes far beyond academic achievements. Great teachers are remembered not for the knowledge they impart but for the way they encourage and lift their students’ achievement, not just in a subject, but also in the important skills of living a fulfilling life.

“It is befitting that the Unesco theme for this year is ‘the transformation of education begins with teachers’. Teachers are the prerequisite for transformation in the education system and as such, we must build a workforce of teachers who are engaged, respected and properly resourced.

“In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, our Seychellois teachers demonstrated their ability and skills to provide appropriate guidance to our children. They were resourceful in continuing to educate and innovate in difficult circumstances. They forged new ways of teaching and engaging children. More importantly, they provided the support beyond academic learning, contributing to our children’s wellbeing.

“The United Seychelles Party is proud of all our teachers and celebrates their achievements and contributions in educating our future generations. Let us take stock of our successes, and address some of the issues that are central for attracting and keeping the brightest minds and young talents in the teaching profession.

“The United Seychelles Party calls on the government to put into place sound policies that offers hope and equal opportunities to our children, so that they can be what they want to be regardless of their background. Much work remains to be done, but it is clear that teachers are central to transforming education and we must work harder to deliver on quality education for all.

“Happy Teachers Day to all the wonderful teachers of Seychelles.

“Continue to inspire hope, ignite imagination and instil a love for learning in our children.”
