UniSey joins in CNN CallToEarth Day celebration

November 10, 2021 is #CallToEarth Day, in celebration of a planet worth protecting.

CNN held the first ever Call to Earth Day yesterday and they partnered with schools, individuals and organisations across the world to raise awareness of environmental issues and to engage with conservation education.

In Seychelles, the University of Seychelles (UniSey) joined in the celebration with various activities held at the Anse Royale campus.

They were joined by students from the School of Advanced Level Studies (Sals), the Seychelles Business Studies Academy (SBSA) and the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design.

The students, together with their teachers and lecturers were heavily involved in the various activities which included coastal restoration, relating to environment and our way of life whereby representatives of three generations – students from a primary school, UniSey students and an elderly of Au Cap – participated.

The UniSey garden was restored with various medicinal plants and those present were made aware of their benefits.

There was also mangrove restoration and archiving of hard copies to digital.

Participants made individual pledges by writing them on a board, while a group of students pledged collectively through a short video ‘TO REDUCE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT BY USING MORE CLEAN ENERGY, ECO-FRIENDLY TRANSPORTATION AND BEING SMART ABOUT OUR FOOD CONSUMPTION’.

A short video on the participants’ experiences and messages on climate change, costal erosion relating both, to the environment and the way of life was made.

All these activities have been uploaded on UniSey’s social media platforms and website, as well as hashtag CNN and ‘Call to Earth’.

This positive and exciting experience has been made possible through the collaboration of a group of UniSey staff and Diploma in Journalism students.

‘Call To Earth’ day will be live on CNN International throughout the day, across the globe.
