The Nkoranza South and the Techiman Municipality are to benefit from a multipurpose market, ultra-modern urban park and a social centre under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) to promote socio-economic activities of the people. Mr. Dan Botwe, Sector Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development made this known at a separate ceremony to cut sod for the construction of a multipurpose market at Nkoranza and Ultra-Modern Urban Park and social centres also at Techiman both in the Bono East Region. Mr Botwe hinted that the Nkoranza project comprised of a police post, health centre, 100-unit market stalls and stores, schools and boreholes to provide potable drinking water for the occupant’s project would be at a total cost of about GHC8.5 million on completion. Mr Botwe disclosed that the area would again benefit from about GHC30 million projects from the initiative to uplift the standards of the municipality and its environment. He mentioned that the construction of the ultra-modern park and social centres would be at a value of GHC 12,275,912.18 and when completed would have a department for running tracks, playgrounds, health facilities and recreational centres to meet the urban standards. He said the Municipality would also benefit from about GHC 90 million to embark on other development projects geared at ensuring quality living conditions for the people. Mr Botwe assured the people of the government’s commitment to progress the social and economic development of the citizenry through constant implementation of development projects. He said due to the growing urbanization trend, the government was on the move to develop more cities under this programme to meet the demand of the people and urged them to cooperate with the contractors to work with comfort to complete the project in the stipulated time. Nana Braffour Twi-Brempong, Adontehene of the Techiman Traditional area and Nana Kwame Baffoe of the Nkoranza Traditional area were happy for the implementation of the projects and noted it would go a long way to develop the two communities and connect them to the national grid. The traditional authorities urged the government to ensure the projects were completed as scheduled and not to abandon them to waste state resources.
