Tema: A truck driver has assaulted Mr. Ahmed Abdulai, the Assembly Member for the Kwesi Plange Electoral Area in the Tema Metropolis, while he was directing traffic at Tema Community One.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Abdulai recounted the incident, explaining that traffic congestion has become a significant issue due to the ongoing rehabilitation of a section of the Tema Harbour Road. This has resulted in increased traffic in the inner roads of the central business area, particularly at Site 20. To alleviate the situation, Mr. Abdulai has been volunteering to direct traffic every morning in the area.
On Thursday, between 15:00 and 16:00 hours, Mr. Abdulai was returning from a radio program at Obonu FM with a fellow assembly member when he observed a severe traffic buildup near the Kwasia-Dwaaso area. He decided to step in and manage the traffic flow. While directing trucks to use the Maame Sekunde area, one truck driver refused to comply with his directions.
Mr. Abdulai reported that the driver was adamant about using a different route, prompting him to hang onto the truck's door, hoping the driver would slow down. However, the driver sped off instead. Upon reaching the Wonder Wonder area, the driver picked up a large stone and struck Mr. Abdulai on the head, causing a cut and bleeding.
The Assemblyman noted that he did not engage in any argument with the driver before being attacked. There were two individuals in the truck; however, the other occupant managed to escape, leaving the driver behind, who later apologised for his actions.
Mr. Abdulai and others apprehended the driver and reported the incident to the Tema Community One Police. Subsequently, Mr. Abdulai received a medical form and sought treatment at the Tema General Hospital.
