President Wavel Ramkalawan has announced the appointment of the chairperson, chief executive officer and deputy chief executive officer of the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC).
Leonard Alvis has been appointed as the new chairperson of the PUC while Joel Valmont is the new chief executive officer and Doreen Bradburn the new deputy chief executive officer.
Mr Alvis is a professional with a wealth of experience at senior management level in the travel and tourism industry, both in Seychelles as well as internationally.
In 2007, Mr Alvis joined his former company, the Mason’s Travel. In 2015, he was promoted the general manager of the company, a post he holds to date.
Mr Valmont started his career as an engineer in 1998 and has been working at the PUC ever since where he has occupied several posts in the engineering field. In 2012 he was promoted as the deputy chief executive officer of the company.
Mr Valmont has over 15 years of experience as an engineer, including seven years of experience in corporate management, infrastructure project development and finance, utilities operations management, government and public relations. He holds an MSc in Power System Engineering and Economics from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
Mr Valmont will be replacing Philippe Morin who will be taking his retirement after a 48 years of service to the PUC.
In January 1973, Mr Morin joined the then Electricity Department as Electrician-Linesman. From 1979 to 1992 he occupied several senior engineering management positions.
In September 1993, he was promoted chief engineer and in January 1996 he was promoted managing director of the Electricity Division in the PUC.
In October 2006, he was appointed executive chairman of the PUC, a position he held until August 2009 when he was transferred to the Seychelles Energy Commission in the capacity of chief executive officer. In December 2010, he was appointed as principal secretary for Transport and Energy in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Environment, Transport and Energy. In January 2012, he was transferred back to the PUC as chief executive officer.
Ms Bradburn has over 20 years of financial and managerial experience in the petroleum sector. She is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and she also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Brook University, in Ontario Canada.
Ms Bradburn has been working at the PUC for the past seven years and prior to her appointment she was occupying the post of corporate manager.
All the appointments took effect yesterday, November 15, 2021.
