TIS launches merit-based public service report

Transparency Initiative Seychelles (TIS) has published a report entitled ‘Toward a Merit-Based Public Service in Seychelles’, which provides an examination of the Seychelles public service framework and international best practices to promote merit, increase transparency and reduce corruption.

The report is the latest document produced by TIS since it embarked on a fact-finding exercise into the Seychelles public sector last year.

The exercise has analysed two aspects of the public service, namely: (1) Promoting and implementing measures which will support merit-based recruitment and promotions and (2) measures to prevent corruption, with a focus on the Public Service Ethics Act and that of the Public Person’s Act.

The report has been submitted to the President’s Office, the department of Public Administration and several other relevant institutions in the country.

TIS hopes that the proposals and suggestions made in the report can assist in widening the scope of consideration which is being given by the government to ensure a merit-based, efficient and responsive public service.
