To mark Universal Children’s Day last year, the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs organized a spiritual concert performed by children’s choirs from certain religious denominations, the National Youth Council and homes across the country.
This lively concert that was held yesterday afternoon at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral was attended by some ministers, social workers, parents, relatives, teachers, as well as Catholic Father David Alcindor and Anglican Reverend Danny Elizabeth among other people who came down to support these children are having fun with them.
The event began with a symbolic prayer by the social service director Beryl Laboudallon and a prayer by Shanilla Onezime from the Exceptional School.
This was followed by chants, animated songs and poems, mostly in Creole and English, given by the groups of children who were well dressed in different clothes and colorful uniforms.
Among the sentiments about morality, life, about what is good and what is bad and that enlightened the crowd in the church, the children came to Jesus, I was born to make a difference, I am a child of God, Come according to the gospel, Love, Keep your lamp lit, I love the Lord, Jesus, you yourself this week, O God educate these children, All glory is for Jesus, I got joy in my heart , Let’s offer friendship, among others.
During this concert, a girl who might otherwise have received her birthday received a small gift and another child who did a brave act to save the life of a colleague also received a gift for what he did.
In his remarks, the Minister for Employment and Social Affairs congratulated the children for their sense of health with many messages that adults need to listen to.
He pointed out that when children are given opportunities, no one can stop them. He added that this spectacle showed that Seychelles has talent and that these young voices are both happy and comfortable and that made not only themselves proud but Seychelles as well.
Minister Francourt also congratulated the children for their day and said that the authorities will make sure that all their rights will continue to be respected.
He also asked the children to take responsibility for their rights to show love to their peers, in society and in the family.
He also asked adults to believe in children because this is also hope for them and makes them strong.
He asked children as well as adults to be honest, take responsibility, correct something that went wrong, forgive and learn from what they didn’t do right the first time and do it right the second time.
He told them that if they do it again it will not be a mistake but a night in their lives.
The spectacle ended with a blessing by Per Alcindor and Reverend Elizabeth.
