Temporary assistance program to support people with lower wages

Yesterday, August 17, was the last day of registration for people who work in the private sector whose salary is below R9,000, and all people who also fall into this category who will benefit from the additional assistance of R300 for electricity.

It also took some time to establish whether they are eligible for payment for the months of July and August.

This exercise is being done under the Temporary Government program to support people with lower wages.

After August 17, the list is closed so that the necessary verification and corrections are made, before the payment is made. The first payment is expected to be made at the end of this month.

For this first payment, those who are qualified to receive a ‘ backpay’ for the month of July and also their payment for the month of August.

All new registrations that are made starting next week, will be evaluated before payment is made at the end of September.

A person who is qualified under this program needs to register only once, unless there is a change in his employment conditions.

Members of the public who qualify under this program are asked to bring with them their valid national identity cards, their latest ‘pay slip’ , and their bank cards with all their details. For those who are going to register for this additional support for electricity, they need to bring with them the documents mentioned above, as well as their latest electricity bill.
