Teenager injured in police raid

A 19-year-old male hailing from Port Glaud is admitted in the D’Offay Ward of the Seychelles Hospital with injuries sustained during a police raid on Tuesday morning, according to his family.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION, a close relative claimed that the operation which started at around 4.30am, involving around 20 officers, produced no drugs.

Allegedly, the law enforcement officers surrounded the residence of the young man and his girlfriend, and forcefully broke down the door.

Upon attempting to flee through the window, the suspect, allegedly, took a rubber bullet to the chest, while also sustaining injuries to his left knee after being pushed to the ground.

Still according to the relative, the young man was apparently handcuffed to a railing on a flight of stairs nearby the property, where he was allegedly kicked multiple times.

The ambulance arrived on scene to tend to the suspect nearly two hours later, before he was transported to the hospital for medical attention.

It is further claimed that the officers proceeded to return to the suspect’s home shortly after, in the absence of its owners and occupants to further search the property.

As per the family, no illegal substances were found on the property, although other items including speakers are said to be missing.

Seychelles NATION contacted the Seychelles Police who confirm that the operation took place, but more information is to be divulged at a later date.

In the meantime, the family is filing an official complaint to the police.
