TDB keen to be part of Seychelles’ economic development process

The Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB) is keen to continue being a reliable and strong partner of the Seychelles and its economic development process.

The TDB president, Admassu Tadesse, said this yesterday after he had paid a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House.

Mr Tadesse, who was accompanied by Daniel Lam Chun, coverage executive, Indian Ocean-Lusophone Africa, has been in the country since the weekend and plans to hold talks with various sectors during his mission which he has described as good with “lots of fruitful and promising discussions”.

Speaking to the local media after his meeting with President Ramkalawan, he said their discussion focused on what the TDB has been doing so far for the Seychelles’ economy, what is ongoing and the plan going forward.

“We have been very active in Seychelles for many years, very exciting transactions that we’ve been doing, innovating and helping to build some institutions here like the capital markets both for equity and for bonds. But we are also looking at the housing sector, health care sector, in addition to real estate, and the tourism sector that we’ve been very active in over many years,” said Mr Tadasse.

He added that TDB was very keen to make progress in these priority sectors.

Yesterday’s meeting was also attended by the Minister for Finance, National Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, and the Governor of the Central Bank, Caroline Abel, with whom Mr Tadasse and his delegation have been holding talks.

“Going forward we are quite excited to continuing our journey of being a reliable and strong partner of the Seychelles and the economic development process,” he added.

Admassu Tadesse has been the president and chief executive of TDB (formerly trading as PTA Bank), the Eastern and Southern Africa Trade and Development Bank, since his appointment in 2011.

He is presently based in Mauritius.

Mr Tadesse will be giving a press conference before his departure on Wednesday.
