The Seychelles Trading Company will commemorate its 14thcorporate anniversary tomorrow, March 1, and to celebrate this milestone it is organising various promotional activities with the aim of sharing its achievements with all its customers.
Last Saturday at the Bois de Rose shopping complex, some local businesses made the most of the opportunity to display and sell their products.
According to the STC management, this activity provided the right opportunity for their team to engage more with their customers as well as gather some feedback on both STC’s services and products.
A small group of local entrepreneurs who had taken part in previous STC bazars were selling mostly local food. Through such a platform, STC aims to continue to support and promote the works of these local businesses, as although small, they add on to variety and diversity of products being offered to the people.
At almost 11am the Seychelles NATION crew went for a visit to the Bois de Rose shopping complex and it was interesting to see that a lot of people were buying the local products. We also spoke to representatives of the businesses about how this opportunity will help them and what is the response of the public?
The first business we saw was Kreoflix,a local media production house. “We wanted to use this time of the month when we know the place is busy to market the new platform launched at the end of January. The response has been positive. Although some people had heard of Kreoflix, some were not on social media, so they could not follow us and see the programmes being advertised. So today (Saturday) was a chance to show them our production. We also had a special promotion price of R169 instead of the usual R199 to entice customers. We managed to attract some new subscribers. This is one element of our marketing plan. We will be using other medium to advertise the platform in the coming weeks. The subscribers enjoy the local production. They say it’s a good initiative and it gives them more options. They are also happy with the price of our products,” said Patsy Canaya, a founding member of Kreoflix.
We then met Pearl Nalletamby who sells local cakes and masala. “STC contacted me and asked if I wanted to participate in this activity. Today, I am selling local masala – spicy and non-spicy. I have local cakes such as coconut cake, raisins cake, cassava cake, ‘gato lagres’, passion-fruit cake, sweet potato cake, carrot cake and banana cake. The prices range from R10 to R25. This activity allows me to market myself as it is through the production and sale that I earn a living. The more people get to know about me and the products, the more I will be able to grow my business,” said Pearl Nalletamby who usually sells her products at the Roche Caïman market on Saturdays.
Maria Sullivan from Exotic Sense was also present with a variety of scented and colorful soaps made locally. “We get the opportunity to be in direct contact with local customers and we also have promotions for our customers which they love. Generally, these types of activities do attract lots of people.”
The last person we met was Marie-May Madeleine who was selling plants and locally made earrings. “I do not have a business but I do this out of passion. I get to sell some plants every time I participate in fairs. People get to know more about you and contact you directly if they have any specific order,” said Ms Madeleine.
