STC Christmas market showcases local products and unique gift ideas

With Christmas closing in, those looking for unique gift ideas had the chance to select from a wide range of locally made products during a special Christmas Bazaar, hosted by the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) outside the Bois de Rose Shopping complex on Saturday.

The event, an initiative of the Bois de Rose Investment Limited (BDRIL) within the STC, was the chance for local artisans and entrepreneurs to promote their work, while building up clientele.

According to Betty Underwood, marketing manager for BDRIL, other than bringing a different atmosphere to the location, the event was hosted to promote local products to complement the various promotions being done by the Hyper Market.

She added that the responses have been very good – 12 vendors – while customers showed great interests in the available products.

Registration fee for vendors was R300, while the range of products varied from clothes, food products, flowers to locally made toys.

Ms Underwood also explained that they accepted only 12 vendors to maintain parking spaces for customers coming to the Bois de Rose Shopping Complex, while all those who took part abided by strict health regulations in place due the Covid-19 pandemic.

One stall which attracted the curiosity of many people was that of Zayma Gofre who was showcasing locally made toys and educational materials, all made out of woods reclaimed from land clearing sites.

Named the Little Islanders – Eco-Friendly Toys, the newly set-up company promotes the concept of Open-Ended Play which leaves kids open to imagination, and childlike curiosity, open to choose how they interact with objects and how they can make something out of almost nothing.

Regarding the bazaar, Ms Underwood said it is something that they are thinking on doing more often, thus allowing local entrepreneurs to showcase and promote their products.
