The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation has received a first consignment of 10 new Ashok Leyland buses which arrived in the country yesterday onboard MV Maersk Nile.
MV Maersk Nile docked in at Port Victoria yesterday morning and the balance of 50 buses are expected to arrive in batches throughout the first quarter of 2023.
The buses are being manufactured by Ashok Leyland India as it offered the best bid during the tender process and financing is by the government of Seychelles through a line of credit from Exim Bank India.
Geffy Zialor, chief operations officer at the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC), explained that “the fleet of new buses will consist of large capacity and medium capacity buses that have been customised to increase the comfort of both commuters and drivers”.
The buses are expected to be in operations once the formalities have been completed.
