The CJSOI is a regional intergovernmental commission founded in 1988 following a meeting of the CONFEJES (Conference of Ministers of Youth and Sports of the Francophonie) a year earlier. Its objectives are to promote the bonds of friendship between the young people of the Member States and to foster regional cooperation, sports culture and youth development.
The CJSOI Games were introduced in 1994 by the Ministerial Committee of the Indian Ocean Youth and Sports Commission. The participating countries are: Comoros, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Reunion and the Seychelles.
The main objective of the Games, organized every two years, is to allow young people aged 14 to 17 to participate in international sporting events as well as to promote cultural exchanges between the islands/member countries of the Indian Ocean.
