Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) Cup

Big guns St Louis, Foresters progress to the next stage

Big guns St Louis and Foresters have progressed to the second round of the Seychelles Football Federation Cup by eliminating two powerhouses in local football ‒ St Michel and Côte d’Or ‒ on identical scores of 2-1.

Last Friday at Stad Linite, the first round fixture between St Louis and St Michel looked to be heading to extra-time with the score locked at 1-1 until Collin Bibi scored with a fine strike in the dying seconds of the game. The goal proved to be enough to give St Louis a 2-1 victory as their supporters celebrated the team’s progress to the next round of the competition.

As for Foresters, they travelled to Praslin on Saturday to meet Côte d’Or in their own backyard at Stad Amitié. The boys of coach Harold Hoareau triumphed 2-1 away and now await to know their opponents in the next round of the competition.

On the same day at Stad Linite, Pointe Larue Bazar Brothers edged Praslin side LightStars on a 2-1 score.

La Digue side Anse Reunion are also in the next round after they hammered visitors Mont Fleuri 5-0 on Friday at Stad Amitié, while Defence Forces registered the biggest win in this round by pummeling MBU Veterans 10-0.

Meanwhile, one match was decided after extra-time and another on a penalty shootout last week.

With the score tied 1-1 at the end of normal time, Persévérance scored the winning goal in extra-time to eliminate Glacis on a 2-1 score.

As for Real Maldives, they needed a penalty shootout to dispatch Bosco FC. The two teams could not be separated after 120 minutes of play (normal time of 90 minutes and extra-time of 30 minutes) as the score remained locked at 1-1.

In the shootout, Real Maldives netted two penalties while Bosco FC scored just one. Real Maldives, thus won 3-2.

As for Anse Royale who had won by walkover against St Thomas, they won’t feature in the next round after being booted out of all competitions for missing two matches in Championship league.

Real Maldives, Persévérance, Anse Reunion, Pointe Larue Bazar Brothers, Foresters, St Louis and Foresters will now join Marine Maintenance, La Passe, Revengers, Santos, Tigers, Northern Dynamo, LMS United and Bel Air in the draw for the second round of matches.
