Seychelles and Russia’s foreign ministers exchange congratulatory messages on the 45th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations

Today marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Seychelles and the Russian Federation. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr Sylvestre Radegonde and his Russian counterpart, H.E. Minister Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov have exchanged congratulatory messages marking this very auspicious occasion for both countries.

“The foundation of the friendship between our two countries, laid almost half a century ago, based on mutual respect and understanding, has been strengthened over the years. Russia’s support and solidarity as a bilateral partner have been of paramount importance for Seychelles.

“With the re-establishment of direct links between Victoria and Moscow through Aeroflot-Russian Airlines in April this year, the influx of Russian and CIS visitors is contributing to the economic recovery of Seychelles,” noted Minister Radegonde.

He also added that Russia’s donation of 1,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines has been most appreciated and has contributed significantly to Seychelles ongoing vaccination campaign.

On his part, H.E. Mr Lavrov reiterated in his message that Russia is ready to “continue working jointly on promotion of Russia-Seychelles cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian and other areas for the benefit of our countries’ peoples, in the interests of consolidation of peace and stability in the East Africa region.”
