Seychelles and IOM Strengthen Ties on Migration and Diaspora Engagement

Victoria: The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure, today welcomed Mr. Frantz Celestin, the Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for East, Horn, and Southern Africa, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. According to African Press Organization, Mr. Celestin, alongside Ms. Alia Hirji, the IOM Chief of Mission for Mauritius and Seychelles, extended congratulations to the Government and people of Seychelles on their 50th Independence anniversary. Minister Faure expressed gratitude for IOM's enduring partnership, particularly in the development of the Seychelles National Diaspora Policy, which was launched in July 2024. The discussions centered on enhancing engagement with the Seychellois diaspora. Minister Faure informed the delegation about the new Diaspora Affairs Division within the Ministry, emphasizing the Government's dedication to strengthening connections with Seychellois abroad and promoting their contributions to national development. Additionally, the meeting involved an exchange of perspectives on migration trends and labour mobility, with both parties acknowledging the significance of effective migration management for Seychelles' socio-economic growth. Minister Faure and Mr. Celestin reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation on migration governance, focusing on areas such as labour mobility, migration data, diaspora engagement, maritime security, combating human trafficking, ethical recruitment, and climate-related migration.
