Seychelles ambassador to Ethiopia accredited

Ambassador Conrad Mederic presented his credentials to Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, in a ceremony held on Wednesday April 6, 2022 at the Presidential Palace in Addis Ababa.

During an audience with the President, Ambassador Mederic conveyed the warm greetings of President Wavel Ramkalawan to President Sahle-Work Zewde and uttered his profound desire to bring renewed momentum to the Seychelles-Ethiopia bilateral ties during his tour of duty.

It is to be noted that the main gist of the cordial exchanges between the two sides revolved around key sectors in which the two countries would not only reinforce relations but also explore potential avenues for more productive and win-win collaboration.

“I would like to express Seychelles’ sincere gratitude to the Ethiopian government and Ethiopian Airline for coordinating and facilitating the delivery of Covid-19 PPEs and other medical supplies on the continent, especially, during the time when various countries were experiencing lockdowns due to the spread and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic across the globe. This has certainly demonstrated Ethiopia’s tenacity and true spirit of Pan-Africanism,” Ambassador Mederic stated on behalf of the government of Seychelles.

On her part and on behalf of the government of Ethiopia, President Sahle-Work Zewde reciprocated her best wishes to President Ramkalawan and reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to extend her government’s full support to Ambassador Mederic in ensuring that during his mandate new impetus is brought to the two countries’ longstanding relationship. In this regard, the President stated, “Our relationship cannot be quantified with numerous agreements only. They need to be implemented and we should concentrate on areas where a difference could be made”.

Additionally, both sides laid emphasis for stronger engagements on the various possibilities of partnership in spheres such as fisheries, Blue Economy, sustainable environment, climate change, tourism, as well as trade and investment.

They also agreed to promote the Nexus between Peace and Security, expand know-how and capacity building programmes in agriculture and horticulture as well as sports and culture.

Also present at the ceremony were Johnette Stephen, principal counsellor, embassy of Seychelles in Addis Ababa, and members of Ambassador Mederic’s family.
