Roadshow promotes reading among other related activities

Children, teenagers, youth and senior citizens came together to indulge in a roadshow aimed at promoting reading among other literary activities organised by the Roche Caiman district administration and the National Library.

It took place on Friday at the Roche Caiman district administration.

Several activities were proposed by the staff of the National Library – story telling, quiz, spelling bee, poetry writing, flower making, art and craft, riddles, zedmo and proverb (by senior citizens).

The day kick-started with a reflection and the recital of poems written by children and youth: ‘Dir mersi nou kreater’ by Hakim Elizabeth; ‘Mon Liv’ by Kylie Jeannevol; ‘Pouvwar en liv’ by Abigail Joubert; ‘You’ by Nathan Laurence and a poem by Tony Joubert (aka Raspyek).

This was followed by a motivational talk by the second princess Miss Seychelles Shannen Henrie on self-love and self-care.

Marie Cecile Radegonde, senior librarian at the National Library and also responsible for community library services and the reading centres at Pointe Larue, Perseverance and Roche Caiman, noted that this kind of activity brings reading closer to the members of the community.

“Whatever we have inside the district administration office, today we displayed them outside so that we promote reading and other activities linked to reading. Similar activities are being done in other districts and we invite members of the community to get fully engaged in these activities,” said Ms Radegonde.

The district administrator of Roche Caiman, Bernadette Rosalie, noted that this activity brings the residents of the district closer and allows parents and children to know more on their reading centre.

“Reading is essential for the development of a human being. I invite the residents of Roche Caiman to come and register with the reading centre in order to benefit from its activities.

Senior librarian Stella Mussard encouraged the children to keep reading and travel across the world through books.

The children and adults got immediately involved in the various activities and spent some quality time with the staff of the National Library and local poet Raspyek.
