The children residing at the President’s Village at Port Glaud yesterday received a gift of different food and hygiene products from AMSA Renal Care.
Fatima Ajmal, chief operations officer of the Dubai-based company, who is visiting Seychelles this week, handed over the products to Brigitte Balette, the director of the President’s Village.
This gesture which forms part of AMSA Renal Care corporate social responsibility, comes to show that the commitment of the company is not only towards our patients in care but also about taking opportunities to bring about messages of awareness on renal failure, through different forms.
Ms Balette thanked the company for its kind gesture and for thinking of the children of the orphanage.
“Currently we have 31 residents aged from 15 months to 17 years. This donation will help to cater for their daily needs. Prices of commodities have gone up and this donation will definitely help us in extending our monthly budget. This gesture is noble and we encouraged others to come forward to assist us as well. The President’s Village has always collaborated with the private sector and members of the community to ensure its young residents always have what they need and do not feel abandoned by society,” shared Ms Balette.
After meeting and interacting with the young residents and staff of the village, Ms Ajmal and the employees of AMSA and staff of the dialysis unit toured the orphanage.
“I am glad that we at AMSA got the opportunity to do this corporate social gesture because such activities are very precious to us. My grandparents are integral for our charity activities and they have always said: ‘when you are earning give back to the community’. That is what we have inculcated in India where we have a hospital, eight charity orphanages and educational institutions. Our hospital was inaugurated by Mother Theresa and that was such a blessing for us. We have been very lucky and we want to make sure that we are spreading the same blessings to others.”
Ms Ajmal was quite impressed with the President’s Village. “Honestly at the moment they are doing a great job. I pray and hope that more people will get involved. These children are our future and we should give them the best as they are going through an unfortunate time. All the community should come together to show them love.”
This was the first organisation chosen for a donation and today they will visit the Foyer de Nazareth.
A representative from the Indian high commission, Vikram Garewaland, and Fatma Bibi from the National Council for Children were also present at the handover ceremony.
