President Xi Jinping of China has expressed his readiness to provide support for Ethiopia’s development efforts, according to Press Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Xi Jinping had bilateral discussion in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the margins of BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus meeting.
During the occasion, the leaders exchanged views on ways of bolstering bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and China, Press Secretary Billene Seyoum said.
The leaders have also expressed commitment to elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership agreements signed between the countries to a higher level.
Thanking the Government of China for strengthening its cooperation with Ethiopia, particularly over the past five years, PM Abiy pointed out that the Chinese development path provides a great deal of lesson for Ethiopia.
President Xi Jinping on his part lauded the development efforts being carried out in Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Noting that Ethiopia has been ensuring peace and stability by tackling various challenges, the president pledged his government’s support to the development and growth efforts underway in the country, the press secretary said.
President Xi Jinping also appreciated the Green Legacy Initiative, noting that the initiative complements with the Green Development Strategy of China.
According to the press secretary, President Xi Jinping has also pledged to further strengthen Chinese partnership with Ethiopia in multilateral and international fora.
He further expressed Chinese commitment to contributing to Ethiopia’s reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, in addition to its support in the fight against the challenges of drought.
Moreover, both leaders have stressed the need to strengthen trade relations between Ethiopia and China.
