The President of the Republic, Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan, received this Monday, at State House, the Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), Mrs. Louise Mushikiwabo, on an official visit to Seychelles from September 4 to 7, 2022.
Mrs. Mushikiwabo was accompanied by a delegation comprising the Representative for the Indian Ocean of the International Organization of La Francophonie HE Mr. Léonard-Emile Ognimba, the Director of Cabinet of the Secretary General, Mr. Hervé Barraquand, the Director of the Institute of the Francophonie for Sustainable Development (IFDD), Ms. Cécile Martin-Phipps, and the Personal Attaché of the Secretary General, Ms. Anne Dally.
President Ramkalawan welcomed the Secretary General and thanked her for responding favorably to his invitation. It will be remembered that the Seychelles President had been last February to the OIF headquarters in Paris and the two high personalities had discussed ways and means of strengthening cooperation between the Seychelles and the OIF.
“Your visit is of great importance insofar as it allows us not only to reiterate our desire to strengthen cooperation with the OIF and to advance our programs, but it also allows us to show you our attachment to French and to find together the means of its promotion in Seychelles,” said President Ramkalawan.
For her part, Ms. Mushikiwabo thanked the President for the warm welcome received since her arrival in Seychelles. She gave a brief overview of the transformations that have taken place at the OIF in recent years and expressed her organization’s commitment to supporting the Seychelles in its programs to promote the French language.
It should be noted that the Secretary General of the OIF arrived this Sunday in Mahé where she was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvette Radegonde, who was also present at the talks.
Also present at the meeting was the National Correspondent of the OIF in the Seychelles, Mr. Ralph Agrippina who is also Senior Advisor to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
It should be noted that President Ramkalawan is hosting a dinner tonight in honor of the Secretary General at State House.
