President Ramkalawan meets delegates from Commonwealth of Learning

A delegation from Commonwealth of Learning (COL) yesterday afternoon paid a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State house.

The delegation from different parts of the Commonwealth, among whom are Aishath Ali, Minister for Education and Fathmath Naseer, Minister of State, Maldives, and Nyan Gadsby Dolly, Minister for Education, Trinidad and Tobago, are on a retreat in the country to finalise, a report for Commonwealth education ministers on climate change and education. They were accompanied to State House by the Seychelles Minister for Education Justin Valentin.

Following their meeting with the president, Asha Kanwar, President and chief executive of COL, said that head of state was very interested in the report they are finalising and he has also given them a range of different perspectives on climate change and education and on how it is valued in the country, including on the state of education during the pandemic.

Mrs Kanwar added that they also spoke about the migration of people to Seychelles by the different nationalities, especially those from Mauritius, Maldives and from Trinidad and Tobago.

“So, it was a very wide range of discussion,” said Mrs Kanwar who noted that she hopes the report will be a very good one that will first be implemented in our country.

The delegation leaves the country this evening.
