President Wavel Ramkalawan has denounced the acts of vandalism that took place recently at the St Francis Church, Baie Lazare and the Pointe Au Sel Chapel (see separate story in French).
On behalf of the people of Seychelles and on his personal behalf, the President has condemned such irresponsible acts committed and extended his sincere solidarity to the Roman Catholic Bishop, priests, parishioners and the communities affected.
“As a small nation with close-knit communities, our diversity and tolerance of the beliefs of everyone are important components of our peaceful existence that keeps us united. In strongly condemning these acts committed at the two places of worship, I call on every citizen to have due regard for each other’s religious beliefs as expressed in our Constitution and to respect all places of worship. Let us ensure Seychelles remains a country where peace and religious harmony are enshrined in our way of living,” said President Ramkalawan.
