President Ramkalawan conveys message of condolence to Zambia

President Wavel Ramkalawan has today conveyed a message of condolence to H.E. Mr Edgar Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, upon learning of the passing of His Excellency Dr Kenneth Kaunda, founding President of the Republic of Zambia.

President Ramkalawan described Dr Kaunda as an architect of Zambia’s Liberation Movement and Africa’s aspiration for complete continental decolonization. Dr Kaunda was a renowned leader, the last of the founding fathers of the Organisation of African Unity, a man of great charisma, of grace and humility, a true hero of liberation struggles and a passionate advocate of third world causes, to which he devoted his life.

“The long and brave political career of Mzee Kaunda earned him the legacy of a patriotic statesman, vested not only in the well-being of his peoples, but also dedicated to the self-determination movements of other African states. His fervent passion in addressing injustices, saw Dr Kaunda adding his voice to causes related to the HIV/AIDS pandemic and minority rights. We mourn with you the loss of this towering figure of Zambia, a great African son whose memory is deeply imprinted in our shared history and values,” further stated the President.

He concluded in offering on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles, and on his own behalf, his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the late Dr Kenneth Kaunda, and to the Government and people of the Republic of Zambia.

“We pray for the eternal repose of his soul.”
