PM stresses importance of enhancing roles of concerned ministries to advance medical education

Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor stressed the significance of enhancing the complementary roles of the ministries concerned with the medical education sector and relevant authorities to advance the educational process and its outputs.

This came in the preliminary consultative meeting of the authorities concerned with medical education with public and private universities and health institutes, in the presence of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Technical Education and Vocational Training, and Public Health and Population.

The meeting was devoted to identifying the complementary responsibilities and ways to consolidate the levels of coordination between the various concerned and relevant authorities regarding the improvement of medical education in the light of the standards of academic accreditation.

A mechanism for developing the level of academic and educational performance of medical colleges, especially private ones, and health institutes was discussed.

Participants in the meeting stressed the importance of the role of medical colleges in contributing through their highly qualified outputs in reducing the large gap in the need for female doctors and health personnel to provide quality health services to citizens in cities and rural areas.

The importance of continuous training of medical and health personnel, to keep abreast of developments in this field directly related to people’s lives and safety, was emphasized.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministers of Higher Education and Health and Chairman of the Medical Council to hold a meeting next Saturday to discuss the coordination mechanism for the evaluation process and to address any shortcomings or imbalances in the academic process, technical aspects and procedures required to improve medical education and its outputs.
