The ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Seychelles, Michael Lotem, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change & Environment, Flavien Joubert, yesterday morning.
Ambassador Lotem was accompanied by Robert Stravens, honorary consul of the State of Israel, and Eytan Hatzor Mashav, representative (agronomist).
The minister and Ambassador Lotem centred their discussions on various areas of cooperation within the ministry.
Ambassador Lotem declared that Israel is ready to provide technical assistance and knowledge to elevate the agricultural sector in Seychelles.
He further stated that Israel will support Seychelles to utilise modern technology that can operate on a small scale and ensure food security in the country.
Ambassador Lotem also mentioned that Israel and the Islands Development Company (IDC) are currently initiating discussions that will benefit the agricultural sector.
Minister Joubert welcomed Ambassador Lotem and highlighted that Seychelles is ready to explore possibilities in developing a common programme of activities and mutual exchange between the two countries to work jointly with the farming communities and food-producing industries.
The delegates also discussed Seychelles commitment toward climate change. The technical advisor for the climate change department, Wills Agricole, requested assistance in developing a certification programme through the Institute of Technology (SIT) for the installation of both solar water heaters and photo voltaic (PV). This certification programme will pave the way for achieving the 15% renewable energy target by 2030.
