After a period of three years, prominent local artist Philippe Toussaint has come out with a new album entitled, ‘Zoli Parol’, which has already hit the market.
The 15-track album, which has been on the market since January 12, 2023, is a traditional fusion of sega, seggae and reggae, including the zouk beat introduced for the first time by Philip, since launching an album.
The songs are all new compositions, recorded at the Relation’s Studio, La Misère.
It is the twelfth solo album produced by the artist after ‘Lape’, in 2019, apart from the Christmas and New Year songs appearing on various compilations.
The title track ‘Zoli Parol’ is among two zouk songs on the album.
“The album’s title, ‘Zoli Parol’, is about the reality of life happening around us. It’s about people who never deliver on the nice words they pronounce. It is a mentality happening in our country as people lie and trick too much. Anybody who will listen to this song will automatically identify themselves either as the person with the nice words or as the victim of the nice words,” says Philippe, who noted that he wanted the song to make people re-think about their actions which could affect other people.
‘Zoli Parol’ is being sold at R150 for the CD and R250 on pen-drive. It can be purchased at Dara Plus, ex- Kot Do, on Market Street, including on Praslin and La Digue. Given that there are not many music sale outlets, ‘Zoli Parol’ can also be purchased from the artist in person stationed along Market Street.
Philippe is urging fans to buy a copy of his album and to put it in their collection as this could be his last given that making an album nowadays is very complicated, difficult and expensive amid piracy by some people.
“This is your chance to get an original copy and to put in your collection as I do not know what could happen tomorrow given the way life is changing, without forgetting that age is catching up on me and I am starting to feel a bit tired as I am not young anymore,” says the artist who noted that he has put all of his energy in the album.
Philippe describes the album as very upbeat, like others produced in the past, and people who purchase copies will not be disappointed.
He says that the response he has had from people who have bought copies is very encouraging.
He is urging his fans to support him by buying an original copy of the album and to also not pirate his music if they want to see him continue to produce songs for them.
He notes that he had planned to release the album early December 2022 but decided against it as people were too preoccupied with the World Cup then.
