Maurilait Seychelles Ltd stops operations in Seychelles

After two years and nine months of operation, Maurilait Seychelles Ltd has gone  out of business and stopped its operations in Seychelles for now.

At the time of the closure, 19 employees were affected by this decision.

This was confirmed by Louis de Labauve d’Arifat, regional operations coordinator of Maurilait Production Ltee.

This factory was involved mainly in the production of Yoplait yogurts that contained live and active cultures that helped with good digestion and immune function.

“We have stopped operations since the end of July and made our last delivery around mid-August 2022. We started our operation in Seychelles in early September 2019 and we did not expect that the global economy would be affected by the pandemic,” explained Mr Labauve d’Arifat.

For two years the economic situation for this company did not improve. The company had made an initial investment of R37 million. “With the economic situation linked to the war too, all prices have increased, and it has become difficult for Maurilait group to continue to invest in our Seychellois franchise. It is worth noting that the Maurilait team made all the necessary effort to drive the business. In July, we made an application for the dismissal of our workers. This moment is never easy for a company,” shared Mr Labauve d’Arifat.

After having fulfilled all the criteria requested by the Ministry of Employment, since September 2, the contract of the 16 workers of Maurilait Seychelles LTD has come to an end.

To note, Maurilait Seychelles Ltd operated under the Yoplait international franchise. Maurilait Production Ltée, established in Mauritius since 1976 and a member of the Eclosia group, has joined forces with Seychellois stakeholders to create Maurilait Seychelles Ltd. This group has been operating for more than 50 years in Mauritius, more than 25 years in Madagascar and more than 5 years in Kenya.
