Well-known sports figure and educator Ulric Mathiot has shared with relevant bodies an educative platform to further provide relevant and modern trends used in the enhancement of sports development and its activities (physical education – physical culture) as another tool of education and socialistic emancipation on both local and international platforms.
The K-Ker’s Freelance Sports Consultancy Platform, Mathiot’s own creation, was presented in a preliminary launch on Saturday morning at the Olympic House in the presence of principal secretary for youth and sports Ralph Jean-Louis, chief executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) Jean Larue, Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga) president Antonio Gopal, chairman of the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) Elvis Chetty, coaches, former heads of sporting bodies, family members, colleagues and friends, and Father Brian Volcère from the Anglican church who gave his blessings.
The objectives of the consultancy platform, for both local and international users, are to reach out to sports technicians to further enhance their education, to provide a supporting arm to sports education systems (without borders), to answer to the local needs in the application of advanced methods in the field, to ensure that our future generation of athletes are better trained and educated through the provision of methodological consultations to coaches preparing athletes and teams for high level competitions.
As a sports pedagogue and methodologist, Mr Mathiot, who has mentored football development in many African countries including in ours, said he developed the platform because he wanted to share the working experiences gained after years and years in the field. He noted that it will also act as a post retirement tool to keep him active after his official retirement.
The services on offer include conducting and lecturing on sports and its perspectives (i.e. physical education – physical culture), organising and conducting seminars and workshops on the methodological and pedagogical new trends in sports and physical education, drafting of sports periodisation and training cycles, drafting of physical education and sports development perspectives and strategies, drafting of coaching and training manuals, training of sports coaches and physical educators, consultancy and mentoring of sports coaches and physical educators, including sports science and the coaching of physical education (PE) teachers.
The consultancy and mentoring programmes, which will be paid services, will vary from 45 minutes to years, depending of the needs of the individuals and/or organisations, for basic, intermediate and advanced participants.
Mr Mathiot, who has been involved in sports management since 1989, said there are terms and conditions applied with regard to the paid services enrolled on the platform which will also include free participation in periodical platforms, free assistance with the drafting of training programme and physical monitoring and analysis of practical applications, including competitions.
He added that the platform will also include the services of prominent local sporting figures as facilitators.
Speaking on the way forward, Mr Mathiot stated that the intention is to turn the platform into an institution. He said he will present the platform to the sporting community on Praslin and La Digue including a session with all sports federations to get their views and feedbacks before officially launching the platform for use early next year.
Delivering a few words for the preliminary launch of the platform, PS Jean-Louis said the sports department will appreciate the services of any other sports personnel who have the knowledge and experience to raise the level of sports in the country.
He thanked ‘K-Ker’ for his initiative and said the department will fully support him in his endeavour to promote sports in the country.
At the end of the ceremony, Jeffery Payet, chairperson of the Bel Air Basketball Academy, presented ‘K-Ker’ with a token of appreciation for his contributions in football in the country.
