Indian Ocean Regional Youth Forum on Blue Economy Entrepreneurship

On the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Regional Youth Forum on Entrepreneurship in the Blue Economy, young entrepreneurs from the Indian Ocean participate in an exhibition fair to demonstrate their projects, exchange ideas, establish contacts or even find new partners.

The Seychelles take part with the largest delegation comprising around fifty entrepreneurs, followed by Madagascar with 23 young people. The smallest delegation comes from Réunion.

Seychelles NATION met with an entrepreneur from each country and we invite you to read them.

Seychelles: Vicky Durand – Save The Ocean Project Seychelles (S.T.O.P)

“I am a diving instructor, as well as a coral conservation instructor. My project focuses on recycling glass bottles that are used as containers for coral restoration. These are the corals that have been destroyed or damaged by storms or the anchor of boats. We put them in these bottles to grow them. I would love to work with maritime students to teach them to dive and at the same time undertake coral conservation using this method. I need funding for this project and I hope to have a positive result this week”.

Maurice : Sonali Beedasee – Personality Organics

“We make solid sparkling products with essential oils, butter and seaweed, also in solid form. So the concept is to take a solid product and put it in water to activate and release the moisturizing oils and butters and also essential oils. So, no need to put several types of oils in vials, it eliminates the excessive packaging aspect. It’s a piece of paper and a ribbon, that’s all to wrap it up. And once the products are finished, the customers keep their pots and they come to refill, so to supply again. This is to encourage sustainability. We started in March 2022 and it’s going very well. Reunion: Pierre Tambouran from Biofuel Reunion

“We are a Reunion company and we are working on the recovery of frying oils to make biofuel. The project started in 2018. The final idea is to have a factory that we will build and which will transform oils into biofuel. We still have two or three years before this unit can be fully operational. In the meantime, we collect the oils all over the island of Reunion and we export these oils to Europe for the moment. The logic of this transformation of oils into biofuel normally requires much more volume. In Reunion we will be, at some point, limited in terms of volume of frying oil and therefore we would like perhaps why not offer our unit as a unit that can be used to valorize frying oils from the Ocean Indian “.

Comoros: Asmahane Djibaba – Waste Recovery Unit (UVD)

“We are on the protection of the environment, once the environment is protected, we also protect the oceans. So my project is to conserve the environment by using sand and mixing it with plastic paving stones, bags or bottles and the result is ecological paving stones based on plastic waste. For the moment we have done some tests and we have just started because we went so far as to buy the machine to make mixing a little easier for us. The machine is there but we haven’t made it official yet. Once we have a minimum funding of 4000 euros it can be used to train staff because it is a new project in the country. So we have people who master the mechanisms but who do not practice it.

Madagascar: Razafindrakoto Anjafantenana Lalaina – Aquaferme du Sud

“I am here to represent my company which is called AQuaferme du Sud, a company which is settling in the south-west of Madagascar. As a mission, we will meet the nutritional needs and fight against the malnutrition that persists in our region. The activity began in 2019 with strictly personal funding. I am here to expand my skills in entrepreneurship first, to have relationships with entrepreneurs like me and technical partners”.
