Sunyani: Nana Obiri Boahen, a former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the government to include private schools in the Bono Region in the pilot Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme. He emphasized the presence of private technical schools in the region that deserve inclusion in the pilot programme.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has released the first list of private schools selected for the pilot inclusion in the FSHS programme, marking a significant step in expanding access to quality education. This development highlights the government’s commitment to promoting equity in educational opportunities.
Nana Boahen, a legal practitioner and political analyst, expressed his disappointment in an interview in Sunyani, stating that it is unfortunate that no private schools in Bono were selected for the pilot programme. He urged the MoE to rectify the oversight, emphasizing that the people of Bono deserve better representation and opportunities.
He further stated that while they do not intend to resort to legal action or protests, there is a need for intervention from President Mahama to address the situation. Nana Boahen encouraged the people of the Bono Region to actively voice their concerns on national matters to ensure fair treatment.
Highlighting the importance of the pilot programme, Nana Boahen reiterated that private schools in Bono should also benefit to increase access to quality education for more students. He pointed out the oversight in the MoE’s list, noting that the last school listed is actually located in the Ahafo Region, not Bono, and urged immediate corrective action.
