Health: Covid-19 update 654 active cases and one death

The current number of active Covid-19 cases is 654 ? 580 on Mahe, 46 on Praslin and 28 on La Digue ? as of Wednesday April 20, 2022, according to the Ministry of Health.

The seven-day moving average had been in the 80s since the beginning of April but dropped to 57 cases on Tuesday April 19.

The Public Health Authority (PHA) has said this may be due to reduced access by people to testing facilities during the long Easter weekend.

On the other hand, one person died of Covid-19 related illness last week, bringing the cumulative number of deaths to 165.

Districts with the highest active cases are Persévérance (49), followed by Anse Royale and Baie Lazare with 42 cases each.

The PHA is closely monitoring the situation in all districts following the long weekend and beginning of school holidays.

It is reminding the public that gatherings are opportunities for rapid spread, especially where preventive measures are not practiced properly and that mass gatherings remain prohibited.
