Accra: The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee is reviewing the election calendar for its upcoming national and regional polls. The elections were originally scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025. The review follows petitions challenging the eligibility of some aspirants and the withdrawal of a Vice-Chairmanship candidate in the Volta Region. A statement issued by the Committee on Saturday said the concerns were being investigated in line with GJA's electoral guidelines.
According to Ghana News Agency, the original calendar had anticipated the publication of the vetting process outcome by Friday. However, the Committee has received several petitions challenging the eligibility of some candidates, which it is carefully reviewing and investigating. The statement also highlighted that the withdrawal in the Volta Region necessitated the re-opening of nominations for the position.
The Committee noted that due to these developments, critical electoral activities such as balloting for positions and other scheduled steps in the election process must be revised to ensure fairness, transparency, and compliance with the Association's electoral guidelines. It assured members that a revised calendar would be published soon.
The statement concluded by expressing gratitude to all members for their patience and continued support as efforts are made to uphold the integrity of the GJA electoral process.
