Once again, one of our own has made Seychelles proud. Gabriella Gonthier has claimed the crown of Miss University Africa Tourism 2021 after taking part in the Miss University Africa 2021 which took place in December in Abuja, Nigeria.
Miss University Africa (MUA) is an annual international beauty pageant organised by Visions, Innovations and Concepts. The pageant was first held in 2010.
Unlike Miss America and Miss Earth pageants, Miss University Africa contestants are not required to compete in swimsuits or bikinis. Founded by businessman Taylor Nazzal, the competition has 54 contestants who represent 54 countries in Africa, and the winner of the pageant receives US $50,000 in endorsement deals, a new car and becomes a United Nations Students’ Ambassador.
The current title holder is Adar Yusuf Ibrahim from Somalia who was crowned on December 18, 2021 in Abuja, Nigeria
Ms Gonthier is the senior monitoring and evaluation officer at the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy and is also responsible for international cooperation for the department of the Blue Economy.
The pageant was special this time around, in the sense that there were two crowns being awarded – the Miss University Africa 2021 and Miss University Africa Tourism Crown.
During the pageant, Ms Gonthier was judged on her project which focused on certain aspects of the Blue Economy, her character/personality, interview, her performance for cultural dance, production of a video among other criteria.
She has made history by becoming the first candidate to win Miss University Africa Tourism in the pageant’s 12 years history.
Her participation in the pageant was facilitated by Telly’s Modelling Agency.
During her reign she will be working closely with relevant bodies and partners to exercise the duties of Miss University Africa Tourism.
An official crowning ceremony will be organised in Seychelles as she currently is on official duties.
