French and Seychellois artists gathered for the Fête de la Musique 2022!

This Saturday, June 18, a reggae concert was held at La Digue at the Tropical Oasis to celebrate the Fête de la Musique. A concept invented in France, the Fête de la Musique is celebrated around the world every June 21 each year. In France, it has been celebrated since 1982: it consists of several free concerts, bringing together several French and sometimes foreign artists.

If we celebrate the festival of music on June 21, the day of the official start of summer in France and in the northern hemisphere, the Alliance Française of Seychelles has decided to celebrate in advance, the weekend of the 18 June.

For the occasion, two artists who came directly from France were invited to set the mood: Manudigital and its MC, Corporal Negus. A true reference in the world of reggae and the most international of French beatmakers, Manudigital has collaborated with artists from around the world such as Elephant Man, Walshy Fire, Beenie Man, Babylon Circus and Panda Dub.

While the public flocked in large numbers to the Tropical Oasis, Manudigital and Corporal Negus opened the festivities in force! Although little known to the Seychellois public, the cheers were there. They doubled down when Corporal Negus took the microphone, after an introduction by Manudigital. Everyone started dancing to the sounds of the French duo’s songs.

In the second part, the Seychelles were honored with the arrival of Mercenary. In the music industry since 2006, he has gained substantial notoriety ever since, both in Seychelles and abroad. Jack of all trades, he has explored different musical styles but is particularly interested in reggae.

Accompanied by Manudigital, Mercenary sang his most recognized titles. So much so that the public, euphoric in front of his performance, sang with him. The concert ended with a song by Mercenary a capella with his fans.

The event was a real success: in addition to bringing together such a diverse and large audience, the 2022 Music Festival in the Seychelles marked a slow return but some of the cultural events after the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as an exceptional meeting between three talented artists from different backgrounds. A success at all levels.
