Foreign Minister receives new Apostolic Nuncio to Seychelles

Monsignor Tomasz Grysa, Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican to the Republic of Seychelles, met this Tuesday, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde.

The apostolic nuncio is the Vatican’s ambassador to a state, a function which combines diplomacy and ecclesial unity and which allows the nuncio to represent the Pope, as head of the Catholic Church, from a from a diplomatic point of view.

This meeting, which takes place within the framework of the presentation of his credentials to the Head of State, enabled the nuncio and the head of the Seychelles diplomacy to address several issues contributing to the strengthening and promotion of links between the Seychelles and the Holy See. It is in this context that the issue of visa processing for missionaries was discussed.

The new apostolic nuncio asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take a look at this visa file. He felt that “it is a blessing to have missionaries coming from abroad, so a visa agreement will facilitate their task in the jurisdiction where they are working. »

The same is true of the issue of drugs among young people, for which a proposal to invite an organization with expertise in the rehabilitation of drug addicts to the Seychelles was raised and welcomed. The organization will share its experience and provide leadership training.

The two diplomats also exchanged their views on regional and international news as well as major challenges affecting the country, such as the challenges of climate change and maritime security.

Concluding their meeting Minister Radegonde reassured Monsignor Grysa and Monsignor Alain Harel, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Seychelles who was also present at the meeting, of the continued cooperation of the Department of Foreign Affairs with the Holy See. “We will do everything in our power to continue to promote and deepen relations between the Holy See and Seychelles, the Catholic Church and Seychellois,” he promised.

It should be noted that the Seychelles and the Vatican established diplomatic relations on July 27, 1984.
