A fire has partially destroyed a building in a private apartment in Mont Fleuri, yesterday afternoon.
The only part of the apartment that is damaged is the living room.
The Fire and Rescue Service Agency (SFRSA) received the report of the incident around 4:46 p.m. and immediately deployed three fire trucks, including two fire tenders and a bowser , with eleven men.
According to the spokesman Terrence Arnephy, it took the team about 7 to 10 minutes to completely put out the fire, since two civilians finished the initial attack and brought the fire under control using a fire hose reel near the building.
This two-bedroom apartment is located upstairs in a block of four units, and is the only apartment that has been affected.
Even though the woman and her child who stayed in the apartment were in the yard when the fire started, no one was injured.
“We thank the people who started doing something every day, because there are already protective measures on the building such as fire hose reels , and the smoke detector has also been activated,” Mr. Arnephy said.
An investigation has been opened to establish the cause and circumstances of the fire.
It is mandatory for commercial buildings to have precautionary measures against fire, according to the recommendations of the agency.
“The recommendations are for measures such as fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, smoke detectors , and fire alarms , things that if a fire occurs, the people on the site can launch an initial attack at any time, to prevent the fire from spreading further. , as the elders are coming to attend,» Mr. Arnephy added.
At the moment, the mandate of the agency does not cover other private residential properties, even if it is ready to offer guidance to anyone who is interested in following these measures.
