End of the 12th CJSOI Games

While waiting for Seychelles to organize the 13th edition of the Indian Ocean Youth and Sports Commission (IOYC) Games in 2025, young Seychellois have scooped up a total of 41 medals – 12 gold, 11 silver and 18 bronze ? at the 12th Games which took place in Mauritius from December 4 to 11.

The curtain fell last night on the 12th edition of these Games and during the closing ceremony at the Côte-d’Or National Stadium athletics stadium, the Principal Secretary for Youth and Sports, Mr. Ralph Jean -Louis received from the hands of the Mauritian Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Leisure, and honorary president of the COJ (Organizing Committee of the Games) Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, the flag of the Games.

Mr. Jean-Louis then declared: “According to tradition, I invite the Youth of the member countries of the CJSOI to gather in Seychelles in 2025”.

Of the 12 gold medals won by Seychellois athletes in Mauritius, the young swimmer Khema Elizabeth won 3 in the pool of Côte-d’Or. Flag bearer of the Seychellois delegation during the opening ceremony, Khema Elizabeth climbed on the highest step of the podium of the following events: 50 meters freestyle in a time of 27.76 seconds; 50 meter butterfly with a time of 29.23 seconds; and 100 meter freestyle.

Swimming gave Seychelles two more gold medals and the medalists were Amos Ferley winning the boys’ 50m freestyle race with a time of 24.26 seconds; and Isabelle Labuschagne winner of the 50 meter backstroke.

It was Dinara Bonne who gave Seychelles their first gold medal on the second day of competition by winning the disabled women’s physical T37 100m race with a time of 17.86 seconds on the athletics track of the complex. athlete from Côte-d’Or.

On Wednesday, she had again won gold, this time in the long jump competition, physical T37, with a best jump of 2m59.

Samuel Morel won the disabled auditory long jump competition with a jump of 5m18.

Weightlifter Josta Meriton outclassed his opponents in the +64 kg category, with 121 kg in total, far ahead of Reunionese Charlotte Firenzula (116 kg) and Mauritian Yahna Soopal (90 kg).

The closing ceremony ended with a big cultural party in Côte-d’Or with the participation of several artists from the islands including Elijah from the Seychelles.
