As part of its vision to raise awareness on the importance of joining the workforce and retaining employment, the Ministry of Employment and Social affairs is holding a series of sensitisation fairs, with the aim of bringing its services and that of its stakeholders closer to the public.
The first of its kind on La Digue, the fair took place on September 2, with the participation of the Ministry itself, the Seychelles Revenue Commission, Seychelles Pension Fund, Agency for Social Protection, Workers Union and the Department of Occupational Health.
Held at the La Digue district administration, the event served as a one-stop shop for vital information and the many services offered by the ministry and partners, and was accessible by all employers, employees, self-employed individuals, as well as job-seekers wanting more information about all matters relating to world of work.
The Minister for Employment & Social Affairs, Patricia Francourt, and her delegation had the opportunity to visit the different kiosks and learn about the services provided by each.
She stated that such activities serve to ensure that the public can access the correct information, empowering and encouraging them to understand the importance of full time employment.
Apart from displaying the many job vacancies available nationally, the fair was an opportunity for partners to showcase their products and services. The Seychelles Pension Fund took the time to unveil the details as to how employees can invest in their retirement plan while the Agency for Social Protection showcased the services it offers to assist and support those who are unable to make ends meet even while in employment.
The fair was also replicated on Praslin on September 9 and it took place at the Pension Fund Complex, Grand Anse. It attracted many, including S5 students, employers, employees and those seeking employment.
Minister Francourt expressed her satisfaction at the turnout for both fairs, thanking all agencies who participated.
She outlined the importance of formal full-time employment and the significance of giving the youths information to better make informed decisions about their career path.
Furthermore, she emphasised the need for every citizen to make it their responsibility to educate themselves about all matters relating to the world of work.
She concluded that she is very satisfied with the participation from both islands and informed that the fair will soon be conducted on Mahé.
