Emergency Humanitarian under Distribution: Gov’t Communication Service

Emergency humanitarian assistance is being distributed to those affected by drought in various parts of the country, according to the Government Communication Service.

Government Communication Service State Minister Selamawit Kassa has briefed today the media on the current national situation in general and the provision of humanitarian aid in particular.

In her briefing, she stated that the government has been providing emergency humanitarian assistance in collaboration with the pertinent stakeholders to those affected by drought and other related problems.

Over 15 billion Birr worth of humanitarian assistance was delivered in three rounds over the past six months, the state minister revealed.

According to her, 70 percent of the total or 11 billion Birr worth aid has been covered by the government and the remaining by non-governmental organizations.

The government has reached 7.3 million people in the first round, 3.6 million in the second, and 6.5 million people in the third.

Yet, 6.6 million citizen
s are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance from January to March this year.

The state minister also pointed out that the federal government has been able working in order to provide sustained support to the needy, stressing the obligation of regional states to fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.
