A delegation from the Electoral Commission of Seychelles recently attended the 24th Annual General Conference of the Electoral Commission Forum of SADC Countries held in Swakopmund, Namibia.
The Electoral Commission of Seychelles’ delegation at the October 26 forum comprised its chairman Danny Lucas, commissioner Henry Bastienne and chief electoral officer Manuella Amesbury.
On the sideline of the 24th Annual General Conference (AGC) was a seminar themed ‘Stakeholders Engagement and Accountability to promote public trust in Electoral Process in the SADC region’.
Participants at the seminar included electoral management bodies in the SADC region along with relevant stakeholders in the electoral process in Namibia and resource persons from regional and international organisations.
The seminar provided a platform for the participants to explore and discuss challenges faced by the electoral commissions of their respective countries.
The 24th AGC was also an elective conference and candidates for the following leadership positions for 2022- 2024 were duly nominated and elected as follows:
President: Independent Electoral Commission of Botswana;
Vice- President: The Independent National Electoral Commission of the Democratic Republic of Congo Executive Committee; Electoral Commission of Namibia (chairperson); Electoral Commission of South Africa (vice-chairperson); Elections and Boundaries Commission (Eswatini); the Mozambique Electoral Commission; Electoral Commission of Seychelles; the Zanzibar Electoral Commission and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
